Just back from our parent-teacher info evening and it's true! The rumours are true! KelpieBlossom's teacher does not like homework. In fact, she HATES homework. Yeeeeeee Ha! She will, of course, hand out homework per school policy every Monday - however she doesn't care if you don't hand it in. Man-o-Man.
It's a meeting of the minds. She has all these new fangled ideas about children playing after school, talking to their parents about their day, getting bored ON PURPOSE. Time enough to knuckle down in high school.
This new teacher acknowledges that some children may need extra assistance in some areas in which case she will call us to discuss this and set child-specific homework. My beliefs exactly.
Can you tell I'm happy? You bet.
However, there was silence from the parents at the back of the room who have their children tutored 5 days a week...

They were probably in shock. I wish J.T.'s teacher had this policy. One of his homework assignments was to write his spelling words backwards and forwards. Wha? I wrote a note and told her we would do something else instead. Yay Kelpieblossom!! This ought to be a great year.
I've dreamt about this kind of teacher.
Will had someone who came close in year 3 and he still talks about him three years later.
I hope KP can have the same fantastic year!
I can only hope that this 'radical' thinking spreads - like wild-fire.
You're going to have such a great year ;)
We have one this year who doesn't seem to like homework too much - one small task each day is all he sets. Of course, that may change after the parent info evening tomorrow night!
Someone with sense.
Good on her !
I'm another radical that believes kids should be running about after school, laughing and playing, and NOT shackled to the kitchen table/desk/home office.
Time enough for that crap later on...
Conor had a great teacher like that last year. Little nerd that he is (not that we call him that to his face!!) used to make up his own homework. I hope he is still so studious in ten years time.
Stacey, I have a nerd as well. KelpieBlossom doesn't understand how cool her teacher is and has been ASKING for homework. It's ME who doesn't want the homework. Oh, and projects. I hate projects.
I'm not all that big on homework even at secondary. I goive them work to do in class, and usually if they don't finish then they have to do it at home. Having said that, though, year 12 is a different story...
I've tagged you for a meme. It's an easy one.
I think you may have missed my big diatribe against homework - back somewhere near the start of my blogging "career"! Anyway, I agree, there is time enough for homework. I don't remember doing a scrap of it myself - my whole primary school career and somehow I made it to uni - shock of shocks! One of the best things my parents did was left me to play and play and play. I subversively believe one need merely keep up until Year 10 then "put the pedal to the metal" - study-wise. I may keep this a secret from girls though ;-)
Yes Nutmeg I agree with you. I didn't study at all until my final exams in Yr 12, and then I crammed them. Got into uni, then crammed for those exams. It wasn't until I did my (third, eek) post-grad degree that I actually worked solidly throughout the course. I was over 35 by then. I've survived.
