On Friday I took delivery of 3 hanks of the Welsh hand-dyed yarn Colinette Point 5 in "Monet". On Friday night the kids and I wound the wool into balls. On Saturday I bought 15mm needles, cast on 11 stitches and used up 2 hanks making this scarf:
Quite proud of myself really. It's not perfect, but hey, nor am I, so we match. The colours are even more stunning in real life and it is a really warm, chunky scarf perfect for the cold winters we don't get here in Sydney.
I knitted this scarf for 9 yo KelpieBlossom. Next time I would make it slightly narrower -perhaps 8-9 stitches.
MyMum will be pleased to see that all this knitting has inspired both KelpieBlossom and Padawan Learner to give knitting a try. Here is KelpieBlossom using the needles given to her by MyMum last year. Padawan Learner is proving more complex to teach because he is left-handed, and I'm not, so it is more difficult to demonstrate the stitches. Any tips out there?

The Mof is left-handed, but she knits just the same as anyone else. I don't think you adjust knitting for handedness. I'll check and get back to you though.
Oh - and nice job with the scarf, by the way.
So, how ARE you? :)
Hee Hee. I'm fine. I think. If I post a picture of a quilt/blanket/outfit that I've quilted/crocheted/made overnight then you'll need to send help fast.
My question is: If you knit, when do you get time to read? I cannot have more than one all-consuming pastime.
What a nice scarf! You should go on!
For me knitting is therapy. I don't take it too seriously. I like lace patterns a lot, but I am too incapable to focus all my attention to complex patterns. There will be mistakes. There will be unravelling, swearing and self-pity.
But you're right about reading. If one reads seriously and knits seriously, one has no time for anything else.
The kids leave me no time (or no brain) for serious reading. And I'm certainly not crafty enough to knit. But I can appreciate a beautiful scarf!
so impressed with your scarf - well done. No knitting tips from me - sorry - unless you want to waste some wool
Heh heh, welcome to the madhouse.
ps. my brother is lefthanded and my mum taught him to knit (and his whole class) just the same as the rest of us righties.
That wool is so fabulous. Well done you on the knitting.
Thanks for all the lovely comments :-)
I've perservered and taught Padawan Learner to knit like a "rightie" and while there are loads of dropped stitches he LOVES it. KelpieBlossom is halfway finished on a scarf.
AND my 'supplier' has just express posted more Point 5 in "Monet" and 2 hanks of Shimmer 5 in "Sea Breeze".
I go away for 10 days and you achieve all this? It looks beautiful. I could have used a lovely warm scarf 2 days ago in the deep south of NZ where it reached a high of about 8 degrees (although 2 days before that it was 24! go figure!).
