As it has done for the last four summers the new year started with a party at our place.
Glow sticks on the children before they walk down to watch the 9pm fireworks on New Year's Eve
Mid-January: Orchard Road, Singapore. I was here for three days for work. Loved that I could sneak out at lunch time to check out the sales. Loved that the shops were open until 10pm.
A day after I returned from Singapore: Port Stephens for a management meeting. You're feeling sorry for me now - right? For three days I sat in a conference room looking out at boats clinking together in the marina.
26 January: Australia Day BBQ by a friend's pool. Kids splashed all afternoon while the adults sipped cool beverages and indulged in lamb, macadamias and pavlova topped with whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries.
I took no annual leave but Firegazer took the kids to WA to visit the relatives while I was travelling so I didn't have the dramas of worrying about delayed or cancelled flights.
The kids are now back at school and a new reality has hit - the work, home and after-school activity juggle.

I know what you mean ... where has Jan gone - 1/12 of the year done with - heavens !! I am almost fretting ... best to you le
Shivers...is it almost February? How did that happen?
Great to see you :) Wow, you have been busy
I'm afraid January always drags and can never go quickly enough for us but we're nearly there now and with snowdrops, aconites and crocuses out and not needing lights till nearly 5.00pm we're much cheered. It's February that races for us, being slightly shorter, of course, makes it seem even quicker and then, suddenly, we're into March and the year's well on the way with Easter looming!
I'm always glad to see summer half over (Jan and Feb can never go quickly enough for me in that regard), but I used to be so sad when the school holidays were coming to an end.
I was wondering where you'd got to - so busy!
We're well mired into the school routine, having been back in since January 7.... up, school, work, home, chores, homework supper, baths, reading, bed... blah, blah, blah.
If you have to be stuck in a meeting... what a place to do it!
That first photo is amazing.
It's true, the ending of summer is always bittersweet.
You certainly had some variety in your January.
I didn't, but I also have no idea where it went.
And now The Year has begun in earnest. Dammit.
Mmm..
Although. I know what it's like to sit in an air-conditioned box, workshopping with a whiteboard, peering at projections .. and knowing there's the clink-clink of the marina just.outside.the.door.
Sad :/
