How you can tell it's ballet concert season

It's ballet concert season.

How can you tell?

Because on Sunday morning while dropping of our kids at ballet rehearsal all able-bodied parents who have ever put a thread through a needle were co-opted to hand sew tutu layers together so that they (the tutus) sit flat like a pancake (rather than - as it was described to us - 'like a duck's bum").

This involved tacking each layer of the tutu to each other layer. Each tutu has 4-6 layers. And there were 18 tutus.

Three tutus took me 2 1/2 hours. Luckily the company was great, but I think my eyesight is shot!

I am so glad I didn't have to sew our ballet costumes. Of course they don't look as good as those, but at least my eyes and fingers have been spared!

They look so beautiful in the photo. I am, however, very glad to have left all that behind me. Ashy still dances for fitness though - she takes a modern class once a wekk and is considering tap fro next year.

It is very good exercise - Stomper's legs testify to that!!

Mary, don't freak out. This is a vocational ballet school. Normal ballet schools usually don't have this sort of stuff to do. I don't think.

well just beautiful. I still remember the time I got my first white tutu - mum made it ..

Thankfully we pay $30 each and some how the boys costumes just turn up on the day - the school sews them and then rents them back to us .... but the boys are being made especially - nothing in stock for the wee lads - they have a fitting on Saturday - seems a tad over kill for a four and five year old dancing to the shoop shoop song - but I will go with it for now ...

Another friend's school imports them from USA - over the internet and they pay $30 and get to kee them....

Concert tickets are $35 ad $25 ch - now that made me gag .... I'm looking for a more relaxed school next year should the boys want to continue.

Suddenly spanish class looks cheap ... no EOY concert ... le xox
