Sydney, 7.55am

View of South Head and North Head from Tania Park, Balgowlah Heights.

Taken while we stood in the 7 degree early morning chill waiting for Blossom's soccer match to start. They lost 4-0.

Yesterday Padawan Learner's team won 13-0; with PL scoring 3 of the goals (which brings his life-time goal scoring record to 4). In typical Under-8s style our team turned up without the kit bag, couldn't supply a ref and had no whistle - so the coach from the other team offered to ref, used his own ball, shouted STOP instead of using a whistle and timed the game on his mobile phone...

That coach sounds as lovely as Blossom's ballet teacher!

It sounds like McGyver for the under 8s.

That coach was resourceful! What a lovely Sydney morning. It never LOOKS cold there.

I thought all refs timed the matches on their mobile phones?

I like the idea of him shouting STOP though. At Son#3's under 9's game yesterday the other team turned up with several players missing, so our team 'loaned' them a player or two.

While I have your attention, could you please please please point me in the direction of your beautiful mock cable hottie cover as it is EGGZACKLY what I'm after and I spent far too many hours last week googling hottie cover and making all sorts of unsuitable discoveries.

Uh, pattern. Point me in the direction of a hottie cover PATTERN, is what I meant to ask ...

Ha Suse! I laugh at your googling issues! Pattern being emailed to you as I type.

I love the simplicity of the U8 soccer games. Blossom plays in the U12s and the refs are a tad serious.

I laugh at Suse's attempt as well, recently I tried to find a local CBD cafe called 'Cream' on the net - need I say more (just in case I do, please do not look at cream.c*m.*u!!!)

Back to your post, if the under 7's rugger boys had to rely on someone yelling stop, you may as well just give up. When tagged and the ref calls it back, most of the time they just keep running with the ball.
