Skiing Part II: Oopsie-Daisy

I would have to declare 2008 the best year for snow since 2004. We had lovely sunny days and lovely snowy days and everyone had a great time.

That is, except for Domestic Goddess's 8 yo son ...

who broke his leg on the very first day, and one of the parents ...

who broke a bone in her hand on the third day, and Domestic Goddess's 5 yo son ...

who had an altercation with a window ledge in the lodge on the fifth day and has the coolest looking black eye to show the kids back at school.

They say things happen in threes, but Firegazer also has a suspected cracked rib.

I wouldn't want to put anyone off skiing. We are normally injury-free.

It seems churlish with all these injuries to then want to brag a little... but after six years of skiing at Thredbo I finally got up the courage to ski my nemesis black run Funnelweb. And then I skied it again.

You did the Funnelweb? HOOLEY DOOLEY!! I'm MOST impressed!

Sorry about all the breakages. Still..... apres-skiing can be almost as much fun, can't it?

(you did the Funnelweb? Sheesh!!)

Ouch! Last time I skied was a long time ago but it ended with a torn cruciate ligament and a ride down the mountain on the back of a skidoo. Never went back....

Good on you for overcoming your fears. But was it fun? Or terrifying?

Oh my goodness!

Fancy staying injury-free being an achievement, but in your company it certainly was!

I have never been skiing, and only saw snow for the first (and only) time several years ago in Tasmania. It is something that I would dearly love to do. So much so, that even your injury laden shots (heh) are convincing me that that would be the perfect way to spend my next birthday. Not injured, skiing!

I was going to write some long insightful thing but really all I want to say is exactly what Fairlie said at 12.51

and then exactly what she said at

er 12.51.

PASS !

Dunnit at 18, when young, stupid and less breakable.

Now i'm wise enough to fear pain .. and dental bills ...

all yours, love.

Ouch! I will sit the sidelines on a skiing trip. If you need me, I'll be back at the lodge keeping the cocoa company and indulging in a good book.

Good for you on taking up the challenge.

Good on you for doing the Funnelweb — impressive! I can't imagine actually ski-ing. It's just lovely to look at it all from the giant window of the ski lodge, sipping something warm and soothing and, later, wandering off for a nap ...

You guys are hard-core!!
But then, it's not really a ski holiday without a few injuries, is it? I have the crowns on my 2 front teeth as a souvenir from skiing at Thredbo about 20 years ago (not to mention the knee reconstruction, broken wrist and dislocated shoulder from subsequent ski trips). Fun isn't it?

Our group could be accused of being a tad hard-core.

Domestic Goddess skied while 6 months pregnant a few years back (freaked me out, mind you). And Firegazer doesn't consider it a 'real' Thredbo experience unless he's been pelted by ice-shards during gale-force winds on the central spur t-bars.

Gee whizz, I guess my little injury was a sign of things to come! How is everybody now?
