Tonight years 4-6 at Blossom's school are having their annual Trivia Night. This is a big occasion on their social calendar and much preparation has gone into Blossom's table.
Her team is called The Disco Devils and they will be dressed in red and black and wearing red sparkly devil horns. Blossom asked if she could take mini cupcakes as her food contribution, with red icing.
I have just finished baking the cupcakes and feel a little ill on account of the many spoonfuls of cupcake mixture I have eaten. I.just.can't.help.myself.
I tried my hardest to make red icing but to no avail.
In fact I think the icing is more akin to Waratah in colour.
Which is much prettier than red anyway.

Even if you buy the food dye called pillarbox red you don't get proper red icing.
They are most definitely 'waratah' in colour...which I'm sure is THE most delicious shade of all the reddy-pinks.
Mmmmm... cupcakes.... (in my mind that was said in Homer Simpson's voice).
Oh! Just wanted to let you know, just in case you were wondering: the washcloth you made for my birthday definitely works. Never has my face been so clean (and so radiantly beautiful.)
You are such a good mum - I am sure I would have somehow outsourced the cupcake making.
I need to send you a couple of photos for blogging approval!
You could have made Red Velvet Cake too - vrtually unheard of here, but pretty popular in the US.
Like Stomps said, hard colours are hard to achieve, but your icing looks fluffy too - and butter = pastels. You have to do that horrid 'hard' icing for a better effect, and i'll take buttery icing anytime - yum ! :)
Oooh.... I didn't see you at the pickup, but I think I saw that Blossom's team did quite well! Boo's team ("the Skaters") bombed. Spectacularly. And Toto (tired of it all as he's a sophisticated year 6-er (yawn)) stayed home.
Beaudy on the cakes!
They look as though they should be strawberry flavoured.
Bet they went down a treat.
Red, reddish pink. They still look devilishly delicious.
I agree that the reddy pink is a beautiful shade.
Nice to know someone else eats plenty of the mixture before it sees the oven!
Yumm!
I can taste them all the way over here in America!
yumbo - I really dont care what colour my iciny is - I am a cupcake piglet!
your images are just divine - so rich and vibrant - am loving them ... and yes I am a raw cake mix girl too - I am 41yrs and mum still saves me a blob of mixture from the anzac biccies - now I am back in Bris vegas - she drew the line at posting mixture - she does post the bics to my bro in USA though ... cheers le
