So beautiful.

You might have to come back to the mountains and show it off!

Thank you for lovely comments all and I wish this scarf was for me - but it's not. It's for a friend who has a major birthday this month.

I think the only thing I've knitted for myself is a facewasher!

Okay, I've nodded knowledgably each time you've mentioned it on the blog(and that's been a few times) and I've bluffed like I have some idea of what the heck you're talking about.

But I can stand it no longer...

What is blocking??

(Oh, and PS...fabulous scarf. Lucky recipient. Racking my brain to see if I can work out who it might be.)

Okay Fairlie - so you wet your newly knitted product (not easy to do with something you've just spent weeks working on), then you pin it out and wait for it to dry.

If you are impatient you might 'help' it to get dry by various not-recommended methods.

Essentially it is to shape and flatten the pattern which may or may not be what you want depending on the garment. I blocked this one because the edges were a bit curly and the pattern was a bit tight looking.

I can't believe you are giving it away!
As for blocking, I am definitely in the impatient category so I gently, gently steam mine and then lay out to "set".

Lovely. Now I'm wondering what feather and fan stitch is.

Great to catch up on the happenings at your joint over the past month. I particularly appreciated your post on your picky (food-wise) son - like Lazy Cow said, I too worry a bit about the lack of "green stuff" eaten by my girls but I have talked to myself sternly and now am thankful that at least they will eat a range of fruits and every dinner ends on this note. I "know" somewhere in the back of head (!) that they will eat a greater variety of foods someday - but, on some days, this can't come soon enough!

Also, it was great to take a peak at your personal picture album (I may "see you coming" at SWF now!) and I think I have the red and white version of that stripey hat :-)

I am so totally impressed with that scarf.

And your new shoes! Very pretty, and more importantly, setting a good example now that's it's cooler. I was getting worried about those bare feet of yours.
