Exam Stress

As I pressed publish it is exactly 7 days until Blossom's first Clarinet exam.

We are still learning our scales, all 16 of them.

Our list pieces are coming along well and we have had three sessions with the accompanist.

Being sick with bronchitis this week doesn't help. One needs to be able to breathe (and not cough) to play woodwind. So we are "playing" without air - like air guitar, but not.

We are not known for our grace under pressure. If this is any indication of the future, God help us when she does her HSC*.

I may need to leave the country for the duration.

Love the photos!

Brings back horrible memories of my own piano exams. Uggggh.

And I'm with you on the HSC flight plan. I have a friend who's child has just finished his exams. It was hell.

xx

It's all part of growing up. Hopefully, by reflecting now on how she made herself feel negative and and nervous as she approached this exam, she'll be able to be more in control when she does have big exams later in life.

You've really taken me back to my Clarinet exams from childhood. I may have to dig the instrument out this afternoon and see how much I remember!

Good luck to Blossom for her exam!

I think the 'we' is lovely ...

I love the concept of parent - child learning opportunities - hence the spanish lessons with darling boy ..

Cross fingers for a stress free lead up and a well bloss to boot - le

I still have a recurring nightmare that my reed is chipped and I don't have a spare. Oh the sharps, the flats and the tricky finger placements.

Sending much 'sucess thoughts' in your home's general direction for exams. Good luck to the very talented blossom!

I have been there. All through the flute exams and the saxophone exams and (God help me) the 'cello exams. The thing that I discovered when they went away to school is that it did not make any difference whether I was involved or not. It is the music teacher that motivates them to practice.

Boy I know how you feel! Cal is doing his first piano exam very soon and 'we' are still learning all those bloody scales . . .

And he now has a very swollen, blue index finger which makes playing the piano a bit tricky!

Best of Luck, Blossom.

Good luck to Blossom for the exam. Why don't we diarise an early snow trip overseas for the HSC?
