We have a Hummer in our suburb.
Thank goodness there's only one otherwise the rest of us would probably have to instigate some sort of road-sharing roster.
Yesterday I witnessed a truck vs Hummer stand-off.
I was getting back into my car when I noticed that an East-travelling truck and a West-travelling Hummer were stopped in the middle of the (popular and busy) street. Neither could pass while the other was there. After some consideration of the size of the truck and the shiny fresh-minted duco of his Hummer the Hummer driver reversed back into a side street to let the truck pass before continuing on his journey.
Truck: 1 Hummer: 0
As the Hummer passed by me I was not only gobsmacked by the sheer size of this (recreational) vehicle but the fact that it took up almost all of the lane it was in.
The promotional blurb will have you believe that this vehicle will fit in most suburban garages and is not as big as you imagine. However, this suburb is 4WD central and I haven't seen anything quite so WIDE or as physically imposing.
I'd like to see him attempt a crossing of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (which squeezes way more lanes than you would think possible across its deck).

what is it with those hummers???? Is it just me or are they the fugliest car eeevvveeerrr???
They'd certainly be fugly on the fuel consumption!
You would have loved the (bigger than life-sized) sculpture of the Humvee on its nose at the Art Fair. If it wasn't for the price tag to match its dimensions, I'd have been tempted to get it for you for Xmas as a garden sculpture!
I scoff at that Hummer driver. Loudly.
Clever title to this post !
As a former 4WD owner I have to say I just don't get the hummer.
And yes - filling that baby up must be horrendous.
You know what they say - the bigger the car the smaller the *enis. But obviously the size of the wallet would have to count as well, not only for fuel but the initial outlay - how much do they retail for?
They look like tanks instead of cars. Can you imagine how much it costs to fill them up with fuel??
We recently saw a stretch Hummer !!! yes they do exist- imagine the cost to fill that one with petrol.
I have not seen one up close yet. They sure look ugly. I can imagine the school run drop off in one, aka the truck type mothers of a certain car commercial.
I notice a bright yellow and black one in my suburb too. I laughed and laughed - it has to be small man syndrome. No one else needs that much attention...
ridiculous vehicles.
And in *Sydney* streets ?
I think not.
