KelpieBlossom: Mum...what did you want to be when you were in Primary School?
Me: A spy.
KB: a good one or a bad one?
Me: Hadn't really thought that through, just a spy.
KB: What did you want to be when you were in high school?
Me: An Egyptologist.
KB: [blank look on face, mummy explains]
KB then starts giggling. Giggle. Giggle. Giggle.
Me: What's so funny?
KB: Well, look what you ended up as. [more giggles]
Me: What do you mean?
KB: [more giggles] A person that does work at the school, looks after us kids and cooks us dinner.
Me: Have I told you about my plans to sell you and use the proceeds to fund a real career?

Ah yes, KelpieBlossom, look what she ended up as - a first-rate Fundraiser, Coordinator, Administrator, Manager, Chef, Chaffeur, Knitwear Designer, Literary Critic and Child Management Professional in charge of a 7 year old boy and one 9 year old girl who is in dire risk of being listed on eBay this afternoon.
Mothering is SO good for your sense of identity. (This is why I've kept up with my dancing.)
bloody kids I tell ya!!
Well said Fairlie!
I was in Conor's classroom helping with the reading last week and overheard one kid ask another who I was.
Answer: "Conor's Mum"
"What's her name?"
"Dunno. Just call her Conor's Mum".
Yes very well said Fairlie.
I have been known to say to my offspring "When you have done 12 years of school, 6 years of university, 12 years of working and 11 years of mothering (or something like that - the numbers are fluid) then and only then can you comment or make assumptions.
That pretty much shuts them up every time.
Nothing like kidlets to make you feel valued and appreciated. Sheesh.
Today I had my 1st day back in the world of full time employment of the paid kind, the catch is that I cannot resign from the other unpaid full time job I have had for the past 10 years. At least the Major is stepping up to the challenge at being a stay at home Dad/full time student very willingly (just give him a month or so - then we will see!)
Miss A's favourite title for me is 'Servant' The scary thing is, it is pretty close to the mark when you way things up.
EXACTLY what Fairlie said.... with exclamation points. If you'd like, I could write a full essay on the topic for KB.
Of course by 'way' I meant 'weigh'
Morning Melinda,
Found you and Fairlie via Alice's 'Down the Rabbit Hole' blog. Great to find two ex-West Australians. I'll drop by a lot!
