Look, an Easter post with no Eggs or Bunnies
Never have so many recipes come from the one book for the one lunch.
Today we hosted an Easter Day lunch for ArmyWife and her family visiting from Canberra and our local friends from The Point. I made five salads and one dessert from One Fine Day - an amazing cookbook put together by my old High School. The dessert was a variation on a 1970s classic - the ice cream sandwich. This variation was home-made Malteser ice cream sandwiched between malt'o'milk biscuits. Yum! I also put out a tray of "Toorak Driveway" the sensational adult Rocky Road recipe with white chocolate, pistachios and Turkish Delight sent to me by Fairlie.
After lunch the kids hunted for Easter Eggs and then played down at Shell Cove where sandcastles, mud-crawling and mud-slinging was the order of the day. From the last pic you can see what happens when three 'tweens' are let loose in KelpieBlossom's bedroom for a couple of hours.
The guests arrived at 12noon and left at 10pm, so I guess they had fun.
Happy Easter!

A 10 hour visit? Yep, they had fun.
(Just waiting for the movie named after ME to be released.... but with a name like Frogdancer it'd probably just be an instructional dance video. Or a Pixar flick. Actually, that wouldn't be bed...)
That book is pretty amazing for a school cookbook. I have made lots of things from it.
And how bizarre - I had just logged on to do a post about my Toorak Driveway, checked out your blog first, and see you've already mentioned it.
Sounds like your Easter break has been a great one. Best wishes from us at TeamSAK.
I'm looking at that dessert with so much envy. And the Toorak Driveway sounds divine. Happy Easter, a bit late!
I love those sort of compilation recipe books, you get some really great recipes from them. Is there an explanation of the Toorak Driveway? or should I pop over to Fairlie's before I ask that?
Oh. Just been to Fairlie's you don't need to answer that last question...
Let me just say that although I'm no vegetarian, I had some of each of the 5 salads and only a small portion of the delicious lamb but was completely satisfied - the salads were that yummy - I will definately be asking you for some of the recipies. Thanks for the great time and company!
PS We have Kelpieblossoms nintendo stick & rashie and you have Miss As earphones - How about we do an Australia Post swap?
I'm willing to give you eleven hours of my time in exchange for ice-cream sandwiches!
That's the sort of girl I am...
Toorak Driveway? Never heard of it but love it already.
That icecream dessert looks amazing. So Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is going to be a movie? Bet they stuff it up bigtime. I loved the book.
Hi M. I've been reading for a little while and just had to de-lurk when I saw the cookbook - I went to the same school! My Mum gave me a copy the last time we visited Perth and I can't wait to try out some of those recipes. Plus the Toorak Driveway look seriously yummy.
