You can iron a tutu? Who knew?

Yesterday I found out that you can starch and iron the netting on a tutu. This I didn't know. I imagined it would just shrivel up and burn.

Now the tutu Blossom has borrowed for this year's Eisteddfod will have the appropriate amount of perkiness and bounce.

Not to mention the shimmer and the sparkle.

That's a gorgeous tutu. Even though ironing is possible, I don't envy the task!

So much shimmer and sparkle! I must hide this pic from my 8yo :-)

Uli, the ironing was surprisingly simple. I didn't iron every layer, I just sprayed the starch and ironed all the layers at once. 5 mins tops.

What a gorgeous tutu and what a good mother you are! I did speech and drama eisteddfods every year but only danced once or twice. My patient parents went to all our events over the years. I actually kind of miss eisteddfods now. When I became too old to compete I started helping behind the scenes and also prepared younger kids for the comp. So when's the big event? Best of luck to Blossom!

That is absolutely stunning! Can't wait until my girls graduate to real tutus (from the pretend Cotton On ones!)

At first I thought this might have been one of your new work outfits.

It inspired me to go iron all my work shirts. Bleah. That's an hour of my life I'd like back. I was so over it by the end, I decided to throw out a few that I have not worn for a while rather than iron them.

When I was a lass, the trick was (once they were ironed) to hang them upside down. Even PERKIER.

You could always tell the girls whose tutus had been stored upside down.

Suse, you will be pleased to hear that the tutu is, indeed, hanging upside down! (it had been stored in a most haphazard way in the costume store cupboard, which is a shame seeing as it is a hand-made item.

Gosh, that tutu is *absolutely beautiful* !

And I thought I was the only person in my age group to buy spray starch these days :)

That is gorgeous. Whatever happened to the plain white/pink ones?

I too would have thought it a disaster to iron the netting. Mental images of melted strings hanging from the iron.

Beautiful tutu. My mum used to steam mine upside down... but with her ironing ability it was probably safest ;)
