First Harvest

In three months our veggie garden has gone from this (26 June 2008):

to this (25 September 2008)

and tonight we eat the first harvest.

For those wondering about my ability to grow carrots, they are supposed to be small

- they are posh gourmet carrots. I figure they're good for half a bite each.

The real carrots are still growing.

Looks great. I wasn't going to mention that the carrots look a little small, but was glad you pointed out they're meant to be like that!

Enjoy your harvest.

Okay, so that's afternoon tea...where's dinner?

Ha Ha

I'll have you know I even did the community-minded thing and gave my neighbour some broccoli.

I may have had to supplement the carrots with store-bought ones...

Actually dinner conversation tonight was along the lines of "so, hope you're enjoying your $100 per mouthful broccoli" and "don't waste your gourmet carrot, that cost me $50 to grow".

I really do love your garden beds. Much better than mine I have to say (which are probably leaching arsenic into my crop as I write - oh well, gotta die of something right?)

I have just made a big order of seeds from one of my favourite online organic seed suppliers - www.greenpatchseeds.com.au - my Aunty used to live in that neck of the north coast of NSW so she can vouch for them ;-) They also supply organic/natural pest repellants and fertilizers.

p.s. thank you for your kind comments and emails over the past week; they have been very much appreciated.

Uh oh. I think we may have planted our broccoli too close together, if the size of your plants is anything to go by....

So those are carrots. I'll admit I thought they might be turnips. That broccoli looks delicious. I guess PL will be loading up at least $300 worth of those lovely veggies! :-)

Wow - it all looks so healthy and yummy. Don't even think about the cost of it. Did the garden bed come as a kit?

I'll bet you're glad that little experiment worked. (I noticed the slope in the background of one of the photos.)

Wow!
Well done you - all looks really lush and bug-hole free, yay!

It seems Frogdancer still hasn't gotten over your tale either ;)

Ha! We eat from our harvest without thought to size, but other people look and comment on our small / odd / knobbly / bug eaten vegies. (Only little bug holes, no bugs!). But don;t they - the home grown - taste the bestest ever!?

What a fantastic harvest!
As for the carrots - I like a veggie with snob value.
