The school holiday activity fest comes to a screeching halt when Padawan Learner comes down with some sort of undefined high temperature thingy forcing a day of rest. There are lots of I'm boreds and there's nothing to do coming from the Tween.
I, on the other hand, see this as an opportunity to knit some washcloths. As I am in stay-at-home Suzi Homemaker mode, why not. The washcloths are a quick project even for a slow, uneconomical-of-movement, knitter like me.
From pattern: "Grandmother's Favorite Dishcloth"
On Tuesday the kids' knitting teacher suggested washcloths as an excellent first project for beginner knitters rather than the traditional scarf. So we hot-footed over to the cotton yarn section and bought some Jaipur Egyptian Cotton in cream and pale pink. The pink cotton was for Blossom's projects but I fear she may have to buy more as I am going to use it all up very quickly

I found these washcloth patterns on Ravelry. If you are a member the links are here and here.
In case you're wondering - these work very well as a face-washer/flannel. Apparently they also make excellent glass cleaners.

Oh dear. You're going all 1930s on me. Knitted washcloths?
But at least they're "Made in Australia" (from a combination of local and imported ingredients).
If I find some good quality Australian cotton yarn then they'll be "Product of Australia".

I had never thought to knit a washcloth - quilt one, now that would make sense!
I hope PL stops feeling poorly and you get to embark on some more exciting holiday adventures for me to enjoy hearing about. Miss & Master A returned home today and at their request spent an afternoon in the WW2 area of the War Memorial with Major Dad. I even arrived home from work to a roast dinner - how about that! He is definately making up for the time missing in action - about time I say.
I have some hand-knitted (or is the knat? (:) washclothes I picked up at a craft fair years ago. They hold up so well in the wash!
LOVE the pink awareness one. Obviously.
Great idea for a small project. Keira's scarf is taking a looong time to finish and the enthusiasm is wearing thin. But a small square seems much more achievable, always looking for holidays activities!
Your kids have a knitting teacher? I am so out of the loop :(
Send me your excess washcloths, I love 'em. The only knit I know is a nitwit.
Hope Padawan Learner is feeling better. I am way too impatient to knit, my Mum has been trying to teach me for ages. Maybe a washcloth would be a good place to start - nice and small!
I've tagged you for a meme over at my kitchen blog.
